School Committee approves $72.3M FY27 budget

School Board · Meeting of February 24, 2026

Franklin School Committee approves $72.3M budget and a leaner 2026-27 calendar in one meeting. The committee voted 7-0 for a $72,341,254 fiscal 2027 budget, a 2.5 percent increase, months ahead of its usual timeline, and 7-0 to adopt a new calendar cutting professional-development half days from 10 to seven based on a 1,495-response survey. Member Ruthann Sullivan publicly defended Superintendent Lucas after a town councilor, identified as Ted Cormier-Ledger, criticized the district's budget decisions, saying "I remain confident in our district and our superintendent and our administrative team." Assistant Superintendent Tina Rogers presented the calendar survey data.

The committee also accepted $13,500 from the FMS Parent-Community Council for field trips and confirmed the last day of school moved to June 25 because of winter storm closures.
