FRANKLIN — Finance Committee approves $170.3M budget on stronger state revenues. The nine-member committee voted unanimously to recommend the revised FY27 operating budget, which cuts planned free cash usage to $1.1 million—nearly half the initially projected $2.06 million draw. Town Administrator Jamie Hellen credited the improvement to $630,000 in additional Senate budget aid plus $65,000 from new assessor revenue.
In a contentious 5-4 amendment, the committee redirected $62,500 from a Parmenter School code review to the fire truck stabilization fund, over Vice Chair Natalie Riley's objection. The committee also approved a $440,000 ambulance replacement and backed $2.99 million in Community Preservation Act spending.
